MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Fox13) — A man is behind bars after setting his girlfriend on fire.
Kenneth Upshaw is being tried for attempted second-degree murder after setting his girlfriend on fire after a verbal argument, according to an affidavit.
It all started when his girlfriend said she didn’t want to date him anymore, records show.
Upshaw reportedly said if he couldn’t be with her, “no one can,” according to the affidavit.
He then splashed her with gasoline and lit a cigarette, according to the affidavit.
The victim received second-degree burns to her face, neck, chest and arms, and was taken to Regional One in critical condition.
She’s now in stable condition, but 16% of her body was burned, records show.
Upshaw will appear in court Friday morning.
