Brand Nubian emcee Lord Jamar is not a Macklemore fan. He's criticized him in the past for the pro-gay song "Same Love." In his latest interview with Vlad TV, Jamar takes issue with the Seattle rapper for his four Grammy wins and not being a real hip hop artist.
"How the f*ck are you going to circumvent the creators of the genre? I don't know any black people that have Macklemore's album. Not one" Jamar told DJ Vlad. "Nobody that you would call a real hip hop... what I know to be a true hip hop fan, or a hip hop enthusiast, or where hip hop truly comes from. Nobody has a Macklemore album. We're in a climate where we have the Macklemore's and the Pussywolf (Yelawolf) and all these other motherf*ckers, who black people have never heard of. Never heard one song. At least we've heard Eminem songs before. We never even heard these motherf*ckers. But their going on tours. They got millions of fans. They making money. And it's no longer saying, 'We have to come through the channels of real hip hop to be accepted.' They're like: 'F*ck y'all motherf*ckers. I got all these white ass fans. I don't need y'all black motherf*ckers.'
Jamar was much more positive when speaking about Eminem.
"Eminem is a different kind of story," Jamar said. "He came up worshiping black emcees. He was the first one that white people were able to look up to and worship. But you gotta look at the alter he initially worshiped at. He did the study. Putting in that time to do the knowledge to the history that you're coming into. Eminem is one of those dudes that's why I can respect him."
