Maino has been expanding his résumé by getting into acting. His biggest role to date is as a "shooter" in the forthcoming Tupac Shakur biopic, "All Eyez on Me."
The Brooklyn, New York native recently sat down with DJ Smallz to talk about how he landed the part and more.
DJ Smallz: What's up with you and the acting roles lately? Is that something you're concentrating in now?
Maino: I'm multi-tasking, I'm reaching out, I'm being creative, I'm doing what obviously I can do. I wasn't a rapper to begin with. I've gotten this far and now I'm beginning to get into the acting game a lot more. It's dope. It's different than music, but I like it.
DJ Smallz: What's your role in this upcoming 2Pac biopic?
Maino: I'll tell you what ... because I don't wanna give it all away. My role is not a big role, but it's very memorable. you ain't gon' forget me, baby. That is a guaranteed fact. It's pivotal. It's action. I saw the movie. If they keep everything that I saw, the way I saw it. I got three speaking scenes ... one action scene. So, it's pretty crazy.
DJ Smallz: Is this something that was pitched to you or you wanted to be a part of? How did that work?
Maino: Shout out to [the director] Benny Boom, that's my guy. Benny Boom called me. I had did some work with him before ... acting. A couple of years ago we shot something in L.A. And I always told him, 'Look, homie I wanna do this. I wanna do more of it if I can.' He said, 'I'ma keep you in mind.' And when it was time he called me, 'I got something for you.' And he told me what it was and I said, 'Oooh, wow.'
"All Eyes on Me" hits theathers nationwide on June 16, 2017.
