The estate of late New Orleans comedian, rapper and YouTube star, Messy Mya, is taking Beyonce to court, accusing the singer of using unauthorized vocal snippets of his in one of music videos.
Mya, born Anthony M. Barre, uploaded videos to YouTube of himself strolling around New Orleans, giving comedic opinions on people and places in the city.
Beyonce used snippets from two of those videos, "Booking The Hoes From New Wildin" and "A 27-Piece Huh?" in the beginning and middle of the music video for "Formation," off of her 2016 album titled "Lemonade."
Mya's estate claims the audio was sampled without their permission. Attempts to reach Beyonce have been unsuccessful.
TMZ reports that the estate is now suing her for more than $20 million in back royalties and other damages.
Mya was was shot and killed in New Orleans on November 14, 2010. He was 22-years old. His murder remains unsolved.
