Time waits on no man, even if his name is Conor McGregor. So, it shouldn't be a surprise that the UFC Lightweight Champion will likely be stripped of his title in the near future.
McGregor has not defended the title he won by defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016.
Since then the Irish MMA fighter stepped into the boxing ring. Raking in an estimated $100 million while losing to Floyd Mayweather on August 26, 2017.
While that fight was a huge financial success for everyone involved, UFC President Dana White wants Mystic Mac back in the Octagon. However, McGregor appears to be in no hurry. There are rumors he wants to fight in September. While interim champion Tony Ferguson and No. 1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov are impatiently waiting in the wings.
“If (McGregor) comes back in September, that’s almost two years (since his last MMA fight). That can’t happen. It’s not fair to everybody else,” White said during the post fight press conference at UFC Fight Night 124 Sunday, January 14. “Love Conor, respect Conor, love everything that he’s done for this company. Everybody knows that. I say it all the time. (But) the belt would have to move on. You do Khabib vs. Tony; we’re working on that fight now. If and when Conor comes back, he would get the first crack at the title.”
How excited are you at the prospect of a Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov title fight? And how do you think McGregor would face against either of them?
