Despite donating $1 million to the Chicago Public School System earlier this week, Chance the Rapper, found himself on the defensive regarding his own child just a couple days. Chicago Sun Times writer, Mary Mitchell, penned an op-ed, accusing the Grammy Award winner of being involved in a child support battle with his baby's mother, Kristen Corley.

Mitchell wrote that the "messy split" from Corley and subsequent court proceedings involving their 18-month old daughter "threatens to overshadow the positive vibes created by his $1 million donation."

According to Corley's child support petition, Chance, born Chancelor Bennett, is making it impossible for her to get her own home.

“Kirsten is essentially being held hostage in Chancelor’s residence as, on one hand, he will not assist her with the support necessary to obtain her own residence unless this entire matter is resolved on his terms, yet on the other hand, Kirsten does not have knowledge of what specific objections Chancelor has to her counter proposal and therefore, it would be impossible to resolve,” reads the petition.

Chance responded to the article by posting an Instagram video on Thursday, March 9, with Corley and their child.

The clip has been taken down, but this is what he had to say, according to Billboard.

“Y’all better do y’all jobs and stop worrying about how good my family is,” he said. “Just a friendly reminder. Don’t let anybody get between you and your family.” Chance said. "Don’t be afraid of what other people are saying about you. Do your job and everything will be fine. Sun-Times, get the fuck back.'”
