(Houston Chronicle) While Carmelo Anthony’s former team finishes off the details to set him free, Anthony has already chosen the Rockets to be his next team.
Anthony will sign with the Rockets as a free agent once the trade to the Hawks is complete and he clears waivers, the New York Times reported on Monday, a decision widely expected since the Thunder chose to end their experiment with Anthony after one season.
The Thunder have not completed the trade while the 76ers, the third team involved in the deal, seeks an additional trade that they would need to complete first.
The Rockets have been confident that they would sign Anthony after several years trying since meeting with him in Las Vegas this month, individuals familiar with the team’s thinking said at the time. The Thunder also granted permission to the Miami Heat to meet with Anthony.
The Rockets tried to sign Anthony as a free agent in 2014 and to trade for him last summer when he agreed to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade to the Rockets.
