Well, this is embarassing.
Late on the day rapper and Cash Money Records exec Birdman claimed to be waiting on NFL approval to buy a minority stake of the Dolphins, the Dolphins denied ever even speaking to him."I have NEVER spoken to him or any representative," Ross said in a statement released by the team. "Not considering or looking for any celebrity limited partners."
Ouch. In other words, don't even try now. Birdman, real name Bryan Williams, had only just made his "announcement" to radio host Angela Yee on Sirius' Morning After Show.
"I did hear you were looking into buying part of the Miami Dolphins," Yee said.
"Sure was, I'm still waiting on that letter...," Williams replied. "We wanted to be part owner of the Dolphins and we're looking forward to that...It's in the works. You have to get clearance from the NFL and we're waiting for clearance. Once we get clearance, we good."
Or not. But at least he reminded everyone he still exists by getting his name in the news! The important thing isn't a lesson in record execs loving self-promotion, it's that Stephen Ross said he's done acquiring minority owners.
