Video After The Jump
Last month's announcement from Waka Flocka, that he was retiring from rap after just one album surprised many. Since then the 1017 Brick Squad member has released a new album with Gucci Mane, and is still making music, so what gives?
Waka sat down with Sway of MTV recently and clarified his statement, saying he was going to do things his way from now on and not be an "industry" rapper.
"Nah, I am gonna retire. I'm gonna retire from the industry," Waka said. "I'm not gonna kick it in the industry no more. I'm gonna do what I wanna do, how I started like from the beginning. I'm gonna do exactly what I wanna do. I don't expect to win awards, I don't expect to go to big venues. I'm gonna really help the youth — this is what I started doin' it for, so I'm gonna finish doin' it," he said. "Yeah, I'm gonna retire — from the industry."
Waka has shown in the past that he loves helping the youth. The rapper bought a group of skateboarders he met on the street new boards recently and participated in a charity event for kids in Queens last year.
Those kinds of acts set a really good example for young kids. Good to see Waka's commitment to giving back.
