Ronald Poppo, the homeless man left in critical condition 17 days ago in a bloody attack by an insane man named Rudy Eugene has survived and is up and awake. He has been been walking and talking with his doctors. Poppo had at least half his face chewed off, one eye gouged out, could be blind in the other and may have a bullet wound to his chest, a result of being accidentally shot by police when they killed his attacker. But even through all of the trauma, doctors say the 65-year old has not complained about his injuries and has asked how the Miami Heat are doing in the playoffs.
"He's Pleased To Report To All Of You That He's Feeling Well, He's Eating, He's Walking Around With Physical Therapy, He's Talking With Us," Said Nicholas Namias, A University Of Miami Trauma Surgeon.
Dr. Wrood Kassira, right, a University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital plastic surgeon, gestures as she speaks on the condition of Ronald Poppo, pictured at left, during a news conference, Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in Miami.
Poppo Is Reportedly Handling Treatment Very Well, The Only Medication He's Taking Being Antibiotics For A Mild Infection. He's Suffered Minor Brain Damage Similar To That Of A Car Crash.
Since Poppo Is Homeless And Will Require Many More Surgeries, The Jackson Memorial Foundation Has Set Up A Fund To Assist With His Recovery. $15,000 Has Already Been Raised. If You Would Like To Contribute, Call (305) 597-4404.
