It was an emotional day in a Manhattan courtroom Thursday as Tekashi69 asked to be released from jail on bail. The 22-year old, born Daniel Hernandez, was arrested in New York City Wednesday, July 11, on a warrant out of Houston, when he returned from a European tour.
According to Page Six, the rapper expressed regret for skipping a court date to perform overseas.
“I’ve been very remorseful for my lack of responsibility. In the short time I’ve been incarcerated, I’ve learned my lesson to be more respectful,” said Tekashi. “I was not very responsible knowing it was that serious of a warrant for a misdemeanor.”
Because he is considered to be a flight risk the Brooklyn native's plea fell on deaf ears, as Justice Ann Scherzer denied his request for bail. She told him, “Even though you think it’s just a misdemeanor, it’s a crime.”
The Blast reports that the "Kooda" hit maker's mother wept upon hearing the judge's decision.
Tekashi is accused of choking a 16-year old boy at the Galleria Mall in January. He will remain jailed until his extradition to Houston on July 20.
