Video After The Jump

Cody Coots is carrying on the tradition handed down by his father, Jamie Coots, of the National Geographic television show Snake Salvation.

As we previously reported, Jamie died on Saturday, February 15th, after being bitten by a rattle snake during a church service. The 42-year old preacher passed away at his home in Middlesboro, Kentucky, after he refused to go to the hospital.

Jamie believed that handling serpents was commanded by God. He also believed that if you are bitten by a snake and die, then it's God's will. He had survived numerous bites in the past before the fatal one on Saturday.

“To me it’s as much of a commandment from God when he said, ‘they shall take up serpents’ as it was when he ‘thou shall not commit adultery,” Jamie had said previously.

He cited Bible passages  Mark 16: 17-18 for his beliefs.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Yesterday his son Cody resumed services at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name Church. He and church members put their hands in fire and handled the same rattlesnake that killed his father. Luckily no injuries were reported.

Cody told TMZ that if he is bitten he will not seek medical attention.

"I will lay right there and say to everyone, it's God's will.  It's good enough to live by, and good enough to die by," Cody said.
