Video After The Jump

Eminem's anti-Donald Trump freestyle at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards has been applauded by millions of fans across the world. Of course, there were some some dissenting voices who didn't like what was said or the way it was delivered, but don't count Redman as one of them.

The Newark, New Jersey rap legend, born Reggie Noble, sat down with BET to give his opinion on the subject.

"When Eminem do something it's not just a song. It's not just a freestyle. It's a statement," Redman said. "He talks to state things. Not just to have a gang of words come out your mouth and not mean it. And as I watched that BET cypher, I'm like 'wow.'" Eminem could have went up there and blacked out on rhymes ... with flows and killed shit. But he felt, as a person of his color, to represent us on BET with a rhyme addressing the president. Y'all gotta understand that. He's not black, he's white."

Redman went on to say that the Detroit emcee should be applauded for having the guts to speak his mind on such a big stage.

"He has power. And he used his power on that BET cypher to make a statement, for us as well. As a people. But especially for [blacks]. And everyone, anyone, should respect that man for that.," Red continued. "'Cause he didn't have to do it. It's not even many of us that wouldn't even step out the box and did what he did, and took that opportunity to use that platform on the BET cypher to make a motherfucking statement. To feel it's a just do, as not just Eminem the rapper. But as Marshall Mathers, the person To step up of my color, to represent the wrong injustice that's going on in America."

Eminem's freestyle has been viewed over 34 million times on YouTube in just over a week.
