Video After The Jump

A young 20-year old mother living a life similar to the one played by Mary Louise-Paker on the show Weeds, lost her life when she was double crossed by someone she trusted.

Krista Dittmeyer, of Portland, Maine was a waitress by day, and a reported weed supplier at night. When she vanished last month authorities immediately knew something was wrong because Dittmeyer's 14-month old daughter, Aliyah, was found alive inside her mom's still running car at a ski resort in New Hampshire. The hazard lights were on and the front door was open, but Dittmeyer was nowhere to be found.

After Dittmeyers's body was found 5 days later in a nearby pond, police were able to put together what happened.

On Saturday April 23 Dittmeyer went to meet Anthony Papile, 28, Trevor Ferguson, 23, and Michael Petelis, 28, for a drug deal at an apartment complex. Police say once there she was attacked by the three men who hit her in the head with a blunt object, bound and gagged her, then threw her body in a pond. They then split the money and drugs equally.

It was Petelis, who set up the deal. Police say he was a friend and had vowed to protect her while her boyfriend served an 18-month prison sentence. In the end all he did was betray her trust.

"If he can do this to his friend and woman he vowed to protect, what could he do to anyone else?" said prosecutor Jane Young as she argued for a $250,000 bond, "(He) was setting up her final demise."

Petelis's mom said she just couldn't imagine her son doing what he's accused of - even though he has a bad temper.

"I know my son is not a murderer, and I know he did not take drugs from her,” she told the Boston Herald. “I don’t see him trying to plan out wanting to take someone’s life, that’s wrong. I don’t picture him doing that at all.”

Papile has been charged with second degree murder, while Ferguson and Petelis were both charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. Papile was ordered to be held without bail, while Petelis and Ferguson were both held on $250,000 bail.
