A Phoenix man is facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, abandonment of a body and child abuse after admitting to murdering his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday, March 6.
KTVK reports that 21-year old Jasmine Dunbar had asked Antwaun Travon Ware, 20, to take a paternity test to prove he was the father of her infant child.
Ware “admitted he had a physical altercation with Jasmine and punched her a number of times with his fist,” police said in a probable cause statement.
She was still alive when he left her body in a field.
After dropping off Dunbar's 7-month old baby on the side of the road, Ware returned to where he had dumped the child's mother.
According to the police report, he "put a piece of paper on the body and then poured gasoline on her. He then set it afire with a cigarette. Antwaun watched as Jasmine burned and the fire put itself out."
Dunbar's mother Tonya Smith calls Ware a coward.
"Why would you go back? To kill her? Because she asked you to take a DNA test," Smith told KTVK.
Ware is held on $1 million bond.
A GoFundMe account has been created to pay for Dunbar's funeral and to help care for her daughter.
