(Philadelphia Inquirer) Philadelphia police are investigating an allegation that Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor sexually assaulted an exotic dancer Thursday at a South Philadelphia strip club.

The Eagles on Friday confirmed that Agholor was being investigated by police.

Agholor's attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. said his client "has not engaged in any criminal conduct."

At a news conference Friday afternoon at the Police Administration Building, police spokesman Lt. John Stanford declined to identify the person under investigation because no charges had been filed. He said the probe was being conducted by the Special Victims Unit, which handles allegations of sexual misconduct.

"We are aware of the police investigation involving Nelson Agholor," the Eagles said in a statement. "The organization has been in contact with Nelson and with the proper authorities in Philadelphia."

Stanford said the accusation was made by a 27-year-old woman who works at Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club, at Front Street and Oregon Avenue. The alleged incident took place about 3 p.m. Thursday at the club and was reported later that evening, Stanford said.

Attorney Perri said of Agholor: "We are confident that he will not be charged with a crime."

Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin said that he and Eagles defensive end Fletcher Cox had accompanied Agholor to Cheerleaders, but that Barwin had departed before the alleged incident.

Barwin released a statement regarding his attendance at the club.

"As a result of my name being mentioned in conjunction with this alleged incident, I would like to clarify that I was only present at the establishment for a very short period of time and have no knowledge about anything that happened after I left the establishment. I stopped by there for about a half hour to meet my teammates, and left at around 2:30 pm."

It was not immediately known whether surveillance footage of the alleged incident exists, Stanford said, adding that the club is equipped with cameras.

Agholor, 23, a native of Nigeria, played college football at USC. He was the Eagles' 2015 first-round draft pick and the 20th overall pick in that year's NFL draft.
