Pharell Williams will release his next solo album on Columbia Records, it was announced today. The groundbreaking producer/rapper/singer is best known for his work as part of the production team The Neptunes and a member of the group N.E.R.D. He's also helped create hit records for N.O.R.E. Jay Z, the Clipse, Robin Thicke, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk and Nelly to name a few.
The first single off of the forthcoming album is the feel good song "Happy," which was written for The Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. A video for the track has already been released. The full project will drop sometime in 2014.
"When we excitedly partnered with Pharrell in January of this year, we felt it was his time again," Columbia Records Chairman/CEO Rob Stringer, said in a press release. "Since then, 'Blurred Lines' and 'Get Lucky' have defined pop music in 2013, and now we are preparing to launch Pharrell as a global solo superstar in 2014. 'Happy' is just the beginning."
