A bodyguard for retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has been hospitalized after being shot early Monday morning, April 9.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that three vehicles, one believed to be carrying Mayweather, were returning to the Intercontinental Hotel in the Buckhead district of Atlanta when the shooting occurred around 3 a.m.
Another vehicle pulled alongside them and fired several times at a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. All three vehicles pulled off with the assailant in pursuit.
After losing the shooter, the victim drove to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in stable condition and is expected to recover. His name has not been released.
“We believe that Mr. Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the caravan and was not injured,” Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah confirmed. “At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle. We are working to confirm the suspect vehicle description.”
