Former Army Ranger Nicholas Irving responded to Charlie Kirk’s controversial claim that Black people were better off under Jim Crow laws. Kirk made the statement during a debate, saying crime rates were lower in the 1940s despite the obvious evils of segregation. Irving called the comment “crazy” and reflected on the nature of provocative statements, suggesting some public figures may make shocking comments primarily to spark reactions rather than out of genuine belief.
