Actor Morgan Freeman is mourning the loss of his 33-year old step-granddaughter, E’Dena Hines, who was stabbed to death on Sunday, August 16, in New York City.
Hines' boyfriend Lamar "Lyric" Davenport, 30, was arrested for the crime. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for a psychological evaluation.
The New York Post reports that Davenport, a known abuser of cocaine and alcohol, was high when he stabbed his girlfriend 16 times in front of an apartment building in Washington Heights.

“Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!” Davenport yelled, according to witness George Hudacko. “Jesus Christ is born!”
A police source told the New York Post that he “was still making a stabbing motion with his arm, but he had nothing in his fist — the knife was jutting out of her chest.”
After learning of the tragedy Freeman released a statement:
“The world will never know her artistry and talent and how much she had to offer. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
Davenport has not yet been charged.
