Pittsburgh emcee Mac Miller appears in the latest episode of MTV's This Is How I Made It.
Mac talks about his upbringing and his early desire to be a performer. At 15 years old he knew he would be a rapper. He used Facebook, Twitter and Youtube to build a following hoping to land a record deal.
"There was just no kinda way that was going to happen. I couldn't figure out how to [get signed]," Mac says. "That's when I took to like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to try and build a following. So, I always just wanted to flood the Internet with material and content and character and personality. I wanted people to know who I was to know what I was about — kind of let people into my life a little bit."
Mac released his Blue Slide Park album in 2011. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard with sales of 144,000, making it the first indie album to debut at No. 1 since Tha Dogg Pound did it in 1995 with Dogg Food.
The "Best Day Ever" rapper said that when he toured Europe following the release of that album and sold out every show he knew he had made it.
