Israel Perez, 23, or So Real El Rey as he is professionally known, is a Florida-based music producer and songwriter. So Real El Rey hails from Moultrie, Georgia, but currently resides in Mascotte, Florida [located 40 miles outside of Orlando]. He gravitated toward making beats due to his love for music. So Real El Rey is a self-taught producer who started crafting beats when he was only 13-years old. He started making beats on a desktop, in FL Studio, under the mentorship of J-Flow, whom he stated “helped him with the basic producer knowledge and foundation”.
So Real El Rey’s infatuation with music started with Reggaeton music through artist Daddy Yankee. The beats were what attracted him to this genre. According to So Real El Rey, “he loved the strings, drums, and bass”. The Reggaeton production duo the Luny Tunes were the first producers to inspire him. So Real El Rey is also inspired by contemporary hit makers such as Zaytoven, Metro Boomin, and Mike Will Made it. He stated that watching Zaytoven’s online cook ups [production videos] made him a fan of Zaytoven’s sound and work ethic.
Just like his hero Zaytoven, So Real El Rey can make a dope beat in under ten minutes. He normally makes beats at home, and he makes two or three daily. He’s been doing this for a couple of years. According to So Real El Rey, “he produces beats that sound like you’re about to go to war . . . something epic”. His beat-making process normally starts with melodies first, and then he bangs out the drums. Although he makes some of his beats quickly, he normally spends 30 minutes to an hour making his beats and mixing them down.
One of the reasons he is a rising producer is his production range. So Real El Rey mixes his Reggaeton roots with other contemporary production styles like Trap, Hip-Hop, EDM, and Rock, to form his own unique sound. His love for production lead him to participate in the 2018 Wake Up and Cook Up Tour, which was held in Orlando. On the tour he learned secrets of success from music moguls Zaytoven, Humble G, and Cassius Jay. According to So Real El Rey, “when I blasted my beat, Zaytoven said that boy didn’t come to play . . . he’s got some thunder beats”.
So Real El Rey stated, “I can hear Gucci Mane on my beats . . . because I do hardcore, aggressive, trap music. I make slap you in the face type beats”. Other artists he believes would sound good on his productions include: Lil Pump, Future, the Migos, and Tory Lanez. His goal is to ascend to the top of the music industry through placements. The producer has recently collaborated with various artists such as @iamjeff , @tiffanyblue, and @smileyjonez.
One of his coolest career moments thus far was when Zaytoven stamped him with a Snapchat post. So Real El Rey promotes his craft by posting short clips of his beats on social media. He stated he also goes online to follow new songs and industry trends. When he’s not making beats he spends his time enjoying life, meeting people, and traveling to places to promote his music. He stated that he reinvests money he makes from selling beats into new equipment and software.
