LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The woman convicted of stabbing her mother to death last October has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison.
On Tuesday, Hend Bustami appeared in Clark County District Court to be sentenced on a second degree murder charge after she agreed to plead guilty. Records state the court also recommended Bustami be able "to receive any mental health treatment & programs while incarcerated."
On Oct. 6, 2022, police said they received a phone call from Bustami who told the operator "I think I killed my mommy". When police responded to the home they found a woman dead at the scene.
Grand jury documents state Bustami told Las Vegas police officers that she was trying to ask her mom for cigarettes & the 2 started arguing about their relationship. That's when Bustami said she followed her mom into the master bedroom & hit her over the head with an end table made of glass, grabbed a piece of broken glass & stabbed her mom.
No one was at the home whenever officers arrived. A neighbor's Ring camera spotted Bustami getting in a Honda Accord. She was located on Interstate 15 & was eventually stopped by California Highway patrol officers.
The month before the stabbing, Bustami was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport for reportedly skipping out on a restaurant tab & violating airport rules. At the time, she told police they were arresting her because she was "so good-looking".
(Reuters) - 2 Colorado paramedics were found guilty of criminally negligent homicide by a jury on Friday for their role in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain, a young Black man who died after police roughly detained him, put him in a choke hold & the medics injected him with a powerful sedative.
The trial of paramedics Jeremy Cooper, 49, & Peter Cichuniec, 51, was the last of three involving the death of McClain, 23, who was stopped by police after a bystander reported he looked suspicious. He was not alleged to have committed any crime.
In addition to finding both men guilty of criminally negligent homicide - punishable by up to 3 years in prison - the jury also found Cichuniec guilty of assault in the second degree for the administration of the sedative.
Judge Mark Warner ordered that Cichuniec be taken into custody immediately, while Cooper remained free on bond pending a March 1 sentencing.
McClain's mother, Sheneen McClain, wept outside the courthouse as a supporter of the McClain family, MiDian Holmes, spoke with reporters on her behalf.
"We do not know justice until we see sentencing," Holmes said. "So Judge Warner you now have a responsibility. We are still seeking justice."
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, also speaking outside the courtroom, said that accountability would not end with the convictions, saying that much more work needs to be done to prevent the deaths of innocents at the hands of police & other first responders.
"Elijah did nothing wrong. His life mattered. He should be with us here today," Weiser said.
The first trial ended with 1 police officer being found guilty of criminally negligent homicide and another acquitted. The second ended with a third officer being acquitted.

(CNN) - “Fast & Furious” franchise star Vin Diesel has been accused of sexual battery and creating a hostile work environment in a lawsuit filed by a former assistant.
The civil suit, filed on Thursday, stems from a 2010 incident in which Diesel’s former assistant, Asta Jonasson, alleges Diesel forced himself on her in a hotel suite in Atlanta & masturbated in front of her.
The complaint states Diesel ignored Jonasson’s “clear statements of non-consent,” & after she “screamed & ran towards the nearby bathroom,” he “pinned her against the wall with his body.”
“Vin Diesel categorically denies this claim in its entirety,” Bryan Freedman, attorney for Diesel, wrote in a statement to CNN later on Friday. “This is the first he has ever heard about this more than 13 year old claim made by a purportedly 9 day employee.”
Jonasson is suing Diesel, along with his company One Race Productions & Diesel’s sister Samantha Vincent for sexual battery, creating a hostile work environment, negligent supervision & wrongful termination, among her other claims.
Jonasson claims that Samantha Vincent, the president of Diesel’s company One Race at the time, called her “mere hours” after the alleged assault & “terminated Ms. Jonasson’s employment.”
She is seeking an imposition of a civil penalty of $10,000 for each violation, plus unspecified punitive damages.
