It looks like the contentious and protracted contract negotiations with Birdman and Cash Money Records have taken a heavy toll on Lil Wayne.
The 33-year old rap superstar announced that he was walking away from the game via his Twitter account on Saturday morning, September 3.
"I AM NOW DEFENSELESS AND mentally DEFEATED & I leave gracefully and thankful I luh my fanz but I'm dun," he wrote. "Ain't lookin for sympathy, just serenity."
As we previously reported, Wayne filed a $51 million breach of contract lawsuit against Cash Money in January 2015.
The reasons cited included:
1. Not paying Wayne an $8 million advance when he began recording Tha Carter V in December 2013.
2. Failing to pay Wayne an additional $2 million upon completion of the album a year later.
3. Refusing to release the album.
Since that time the "A Milli" hit maker has publicly dissed both Birdman and Cash Money several times.
On December 31, 2015, the stalemate appeared to be coming to an end when Birdman, Wayne, Drake and Mack Maine were photographed ringing in 2016 together in Miami at E11even nightclub.
Mack captioned the photo on his Instagram page: "United we stand divided we fall."
However, that moment of solidarity was short lived. Since then, Weezy has dissed Cash Money during his concerts, took a photo in May with Birdman foes Rick Ross and Trick Daddy and was spotted wearing a cap with "Fuck Cash Money" written on it in July.
If Wayne has really hung up the mic where would you rank him all time?
