Kevin Jerome Gilyard p.k.a. Kevin Gates has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a gun, after accepting a plea deal.
Gates was originally arrested in Chicago on Oct. 29, 2013. He posted bail and was scheduled to appear back in court later that year, but failed to show.
The Chicago Tribune reports that two arrest warrants were issued for the rapper. One in 2013 and another in 2016.
Authorities in Cook County finally tracked Gates down in March of 2017. He had just completed serving a sentence in Florida for kicking a female fan in the chest, when officials found out he had an outstanding warrant. Gates was re-arrested and subsequently extradited to Illinois.
Gates' attorney, Herschel Rush, told TMZ that the Chicago plea deal was the best thing for his client because he could have been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
"We are very pleased with the result of 30 months," Rush said.
