Phife Dawg is being remembered and honored today. The 45-year old co-founding member of A Tribe Called Quest passed away on Monday, March 22, but his contributions to the genre will never be forgotten.
Compton, California emcee Kendrick Lamar paid tribute to the Five Foot Assassin during a concert at Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia last night.
“Today, we lost one of the pioneers in hip-hop today by the name of Phife Dawg, ya’ll,” he said, while fans chanted the late great’s name with phones and lighters in the air. “We’re gonna give it up to him for allowing me to do what I’m doing on this stage right here, right now, today.”
Kendrick then led the crowd as they chanted Phife's name. Watch below.
