TJ Cross, born Terrence Cross, is a Wisconsin-based artist who has been making waves in the world of Hip Hop and R&B. His musical journey is a blend of dedication, passion, and constant evolution. It all started with the soulful covers of iconic bands like The Temptations and The Jackson 5. From there, TJ found his calling in music, and it’s been a wild ride ever since.
"My early influences were rooted in the classics," says TJ. "Covering songs from The Temptations and The Jackson 5 helped shape my sound. That’s when I knew music was something I had to do for the rest of my life." With this early inspiration, TJ honed his craft and made the decision to pursue music professionally.
One of the standout moments of TJ's career came in 2014 when he signed a publishing deal with BMI, which marked a major milestone in his path as an artist. But despite these accolades, TJ’s true drive comes from his personal connection to his music and audience. "I want my music to resonate by sharing real, relatable experiences," he explains. "That’s what connects me to my fans—telling my story and hearing theirs in return."
TJ's sound is an exciting mix of Hip Hop and R&B, fusing the energy of both genres into something that feels uniquely his own. As an artist, TJ is all about collaboration, always seeking to connect with fellow musicians and producers. "I take the time to go through their catalog, get to know them, and show appreciation for their craft," he says. This collaborative spirit has led him to exciting projects, including working with IMDB Letterboxd film director Eli Hayes and dancing at a Red Bull BC One Park Jam in Austin, Texas.
Through the years, TJ has faced some personal challenges in balancing music with school and the struggles of being in different states. But his motivation never wavers. "My upbringing and my daughter are my biggest motivations. I push forward for them," he shares.
Looking ahead, TJ is preparing to release his new single, "Money." This track promises to show another side of his artistry, and he is eager to share it with the world. When asked about the role of social media in his career, TJ emphasizes its importance. "I engage with my fan base by sending messages, showing appreciation for their profiles, and just connecting on a deeper level. It helps us build a strong network and reach our goals together."
