HOUSTON (Click2Houston) – Houston police say the victim of a drive-by shooting near the River Oaks area on Thursday afternoon is believed to be a rapper in his mid-20s.
Officers did not go into detail about the identity of the rapper, however, investigators said they believed the attack was targeted.
At a briefing, Houston police Chief Troy Finner said officers arrived to find a man in his mid-20s dead at the scene.
“There was a number of shots fired as evidenced by the casings that are on the ground. We do believe this was a targeted incident,” Finner said.
Finner said the victim was driving a white Mercedes northbound on Mid Lane when witnesses state a black, newer model Subaru SUV drove up & began firing at the vehicle.
Police say 2 suspects, dressed in black & possibly wearing sunglasses, got out of the vehicle at one point. They fled in an unknown direction down San Felipe.
Police are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area to try & find out more about the incident.
Finner said at this time, the victim’s identity is not known, however, investigators said the victim “was a rapper.”
“We don’t know the victim, we don’t know who he is but we do know that he has a family & I think it is always important that we say & ask the city to pray for the family,” Finner said.
