HOUSTON (Click2Houston) – An officer with the Houston Police Department who is accused of shooting his wife in the face in northwest Houston Monday has been relieved of duty & is facing charges.

HPD & emergency officials with the Houston Fire Department responded to reports of a shooting at the Westerly Apartments at around 12:45 a.m.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they located a 30-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the face. She was transported to a nearby trauma center in stable condition & at some point is undergoing surgery.

Shortly after, investigators determined that a 31-year-old patrol officer shot his wife with a rifle. He was arrested & is expected to be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Finner added that HPD does not issue rifles, but it could have been his personal rifle that was registered through the agency, which is part of the current investigation.

The officer has reportedly been with the department for two years. Finner said the name of the officer will not be released at this time, as the charging documents are not complete.

Details on what led up to the shooting haven’t been provided at this time. The investigation remains “very active” * is ongoing.
