It's been one year since the untimely passing of rap legend Heavy D. The Jamaican born, Mount Vernon, New York raised emcee was 44-years old at the time of his death.

Heavy made his mark as the leader of the group Heavy D & The Boyz as well as his solo work. He earned platinum plaques for the albums Big Tyme (1989), Peaceful Journey (1991) and Nuttin' but Love (1994). He received a gold plaque for 1993's Blue Funk.
