Floyd Mayweather Jr. has just ended much angst by signing to fight Pomona's Shane Mosley in a May 1 welterweight fight between two of the world's top pound-for-pound fighters, Mosley's attorney told The Times.
"Everything's good to go, it'll be a great fight, and the world will see what a great fighter Shane is at 147 pounds," Mosley's attorney Judd Burstein told The Times.
The bout is expected to be staged at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Minutes earlier Wednesday, promoter Richard Schaefer just hung up the phone with me to talk to Mayweather Jr.'s manager after expressing frustration with the delayed signing of the unbeaten Mayweather (40-0).
"I don't know, he just hasn't signed yet, I'm told everything is OK," Schaefer had said around noon.
"It would've been good to have him sign two days ago. We could've gotten him down to Miami and talked to all the [reporters] on radio row. I really don't know what's happening. I'm told the signing is forthcoming."
He was right.
