Digitization has revolutionized the music industry.
Downloads and streaming have usurped the place of
vinyl and CDS as the music fan’s format of choice.
Digital music is more accessible, convenient,
affordable, and portable. It allows users the
opportunity to browse the biggest music stores
anyplace and anytime. Yet music has many genres
and many niches, and they have all responded
differently to digitization. The Christian
music industry for example encompasses an
extremely popular and broad genre outside
of the mainstream. Yet as Christian recording
artist and faith-based influencer Radikal
Hughes points out, digitization has been
nothing but positive for the music he loves.

Radikal Hughes was signed to a record label
in 2009 after three years of building a name
as a Christian recording artist. His two albums
“Free 2 Fly” and “Radikal Nation” have achieved
huge acclaim and he has plans to release a third
album in 2022. For Radikal, music is a way of
celebrating God’s love and spreading the word.
He believes any medium that can convey that is
a good thing.

“I realize there are a lot of mainstream big
artists whose profit margins have been impacted
by digitization but for any new act looking to
get their name out there and their presence felt,
it has been an absolute boon,” explained Radikal.
“Digitization has allowed me to not only make my
albums accessible to the worldwide Christian
community, but it also enables me to build a
global community through social media. As far
as I’m concerned, digitization has created a
golden age of music, particularly in the
Christian community.”

Celebrating their faith through song has always
been integral to Christians everywhere, and as
far as Radikal Hughes is concerned, the
opportunity for fellow Christians to access,
through the touch of their fingertips, songs
that mean so much to them has proved priceless.

Radikal explained, “A good song in the Christian
tradition can bolster your faith when you’re
having a bad day and put a smile on your face
in times of woe. It’s a thing of beauty that
those songs are now so accessible
thanks to digitization.”
