LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The jury has found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty in connection with the Sept. 6, 1996, killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur on the Las Vegas Strip.
On Monday, the jury deliberated on the charge of murder against Davis, with two modifiers: one tied to gang relations, the other related to the use of a firearm.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the jury returned to a Las Vegas courtroom and found Davis guilty of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. In the end, prosecutors choosing to dismiss the gang enhancement.
Following the verdict, Davis told the judge he would like to appeal the decision adding that he wanted his “stuff back.” Meanwhile, family members of the late Tupac Shakur were seen hugging prosecutors in the courtroom.
On Monday, during closing arguments, the defense pointed to police corruption, an attorney who, years ago, didn’t have Davis’s best interests in mind, and a lack of hard evidence placing him at the scene. Meanwhile, prosecutors pointed to repeated admissions by Davis, placing himself at the drive-by shooting on Sept. 6, 1996, and admitting to taking part in the murder without pulling the trigger himself.
