Video After The Jump
Less than two weeks ago Richard Pryor Jr. was dead set against Nick Cannon portraying his father in an upcoming Lee Daniels-directed biopic.
Richard then sat down with G-Unit comedian Jack Thriller for an interview about the subject. Jack has worked closely with Nick as part of the cast of MTV's Wild 'N Out. He gave Richard a list of reasons why Nick would be perfect for the role.
Towards the end of the chat Richard had softened his stance and said he would think about it. Fast forward to this morning when TMZ posted an interview with Richard.
"His passion, his commitment, it takes more than a comedian to play that part," Richard said, speaking of Nick. "It takes an actor. Anybody can do stand-up, but the movie is not about a stand-up comedian. It's not about what he did on stage, it's about his life. I think he's a great person for it."
The decision to cast the role will ultimately come down to Daniels and Pryor's widow, Jennifer Lee. Lee has stated her preference would be Terrence Howard. Other actors being considered include Marlon Wayans, Mike Epps and Jay Pharoah.
Hopefully a decision will be made soon. Pryor is considered by many to be the greatest comedian ever. Picking the right person to portray him is crucial, but it looks like Jack may have changed the mind of at least one person in the Pryor family about the part.
