Video After The Jump

A few weeks ago we reported that Dave Chappelle was booed off stage at a charity event in Miami.

There were reports that hecklers had gotten the best of the comedian, causing him to simply shut his act down, refusing to tell any jokes.

For the first time Dave is speaking out publicly about the incident and why things went so awry.

"Ok look this happened to me twice in my career," Dave said. "The one you read about in Florida. The other time it actually happened in Oakland. This happened years ago -- I was doing a show with Cedric The Entertainer. I thought the show was going good. And someone kept screaming 'shut the f*ck up' from the back of the room. Then finally I said 'hey I only got 10 more minutes. If that's what you want I'm here for you and that's the show you will get.' And I actually laid down on stage and didn't say a word. First the crowd was confused. Then they started booing But the longer I sat there it became like a standing ovation."

Dave goes on to try and explain what happened in Miami in July.

"Ok in Florida I don't know what happened," he joked. "I'm just kidding -- someone said I melted down or had a nervous breakdown, I wasn't nervous at all. The thing is it was an Indian casino and I felt like they were trying to get a reverse Kramer shot on me. First of all when I come out on stage everybody pulls their cameras out, which is cool for like the first few minutes. Then the whole front row started heckling me and apparently they were the Seminole Indians whose casino it was. So security didn't want to tell them to be quiet. And you can imagine trying to talk to someone. And they're talking while you're talking and holding a camera."
