You knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when.
Charles Barkley has apologized for remarks he made to Axios reporter, Alexi McCammond.
As we previously reported, the NBA Hall of Famer and McCammond were discussing the 2020 presidential on Tuesday when he told her, “I don’t hit women but if I did I would hit you.”
The comments were supposed to be off the record, but McCammond posted them to her Twitter account.
Barkley's apology came via a tweet from Turner Sports Public Relations. Turner Sports owns TNT where Barkley works as an analyst on NBA broadcasts.
“My comment was inappropriate and unacceptable," the statement read. "It was an attempted joke that wasn’t funny at all. There’s no excuse for it and I apologize.”
McCammond responded by retweeting the apology and added a written response.
"The comments Charles Barkley made to me are not acceptable," McCammond wrote. "Threats of violence are not a joke, & no person deserves to be hit or threatened like that. Silence only allows the culture of misogyny to fester. And those kinds of comments don't merit off-the-record protections."
This may or may not be the end of the saga depending on how Turner Sports chooses to handle it from here.
