She has been trying to get off the label since January when she went public with her frustration.
“I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal,” she tweeted. “Universal needs to just hand me over to another label who knows what to do with me. I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don’t even know what they’re listening for or to. Can someone at Sony buy me off of Universal please?? i’m really in hell here.”
Banks has been a fixture on blogs mainly because of her feuds on Twitter with everyone from T.I. to Jim Jones, but she is very talented and isn't afraid to take risks musically. Songs like "212" and "ATM Jam" prove Banks can deliver the goods.
It will be interesting to see what her next move is now that she's independent.
