Video And Poll After The Jump
In boxing to be considered the best you have to be willing to fight all of the top fighters in or near your weight class. WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs), is ready to meet one of the most feared fighters on the planet, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), to prove he should be in the conversation for best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Ward stopped by ESPN's SportsNation, recently and called Triple G out.
“Andre Ward is available and we can make it happen," Ward said. "They want Golovkin to smile and wave and be the pretty boy and the promoters do the tough talk. If I respond, then I’m the villain If GGG wants to fight, come from behind the promoter, come from behind the trainer, tell them to call HBO. I’ve already done that before the show because I knew you guys were going to ask me this, and let’s make it happen!”
Triple G stopped by SportsNation a week ago and said if a contract can be agreed upon, he's ready to rumble.
"{Andre Ward's} a great boxer. There's interest from us...not just me, but for everybody," said Golovkin. "I want a 50/50 [revenue split]. [If] he wants a fight with me? Absolutely, I'm ready."
Ward fights at 168 pounds. Golovkin currently competes at 160 pounds. Triple G would probably have to move up to Ward's weight class to make the fight happen, or it could be fought at a catch weight of 164.
