24-year old Adrien Broner isn't taking a lot of time off after losing his WBA welterweight belt to Marcos Maidana by unanimous decision in December. The previously undefeated Cincinnati boxer has exercised his rematch clause and will fight Maidana again in April.

 

ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael confirmed the news from Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer.

"The Problem" was knocked down twice in the first bout and was consistently hammered by hard shots from Maidana, but proved his toughness by lasting the full 12 rounds. He says the rematch will have a different outcome.

 

 

Broner, a three-division champion, who has held belts in the lightweight, super featherweight and welterweight divisions, will enter the rematch with a record of 27 Wins (22 knockouts, 5 decisions, 0 no contest), 1 Loss, 0 Draw.

The 30-year-old "Chino" Maidana has held the light welterweight belt and currently holds the WBA championship he took from Broner. He will enter the ring with a record of 35 Wins (31 knockouts, 4 decisions), 3 Losses (3 decisions), 0 Draws.
