Memorabilia website Moments in Time plans to auction off Tupac Shakur's handwritten lyrics for the song "Catchin' Feelings" this month, but the late rapper's estate is threatening legal action if it does.
TMZ reports that the Shakur estate plans to sue if the sale goes through. They maintain that they are the owners of all of the music icon's personal and intellectual property because he never sold them. The fact that former managers, employees and others took money for some of the items doesn't change the fact they still legally belong to Shakur, according to the estate.
As we previously reported, MIT owner, Gary Zimet, obtained the lyric sheet from a former employee who worked at the studio where the song, which appears on 2Pac's 2002 posthumous album titled "Better Dayz," was recorded in 1996.
Zimet says the estate doesn't have a valid claim and he won't stop the auction. He's asking for $38,500.
