Video After The Jump

ST. LOUIS POST DISPATCH — A 13-year-old girl who was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in north St. Louis County was an honor roll student who enjoyed making TikTok videos, her great aunt said.

Family members were shocked when they received the call that Nevaeh Smallwood had been shot and killed while at her 14-year-old boyfriend’s house near Dellwood in the 10200 block of Lynncrest Court, Princess Portis said Wednesday.

“This was just so, so unexpected,” Portis said. “It’s a tough situation. I am at a loss for words.”

Portis said she didn’t know where the boyfriend got the gun but she believed the shooting was accidental.

Police said they were investigating the incident as a homicide.

Portis said Nevaeh’s family will remember the smart girl who was set to attend eighth grade at the Lucas Crossing Complex on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.

“She was a really good kid,” Portis said. “She was a girly girl. She was a TikTok queen.”

A GoFundMe set up for the family asked people to help pay for funeral expenses during this “rough time.” A date for the funeral had not been set.

As of Tuesday, at least 63 children have been injured or killed in shootings in the St. Louis region. Eighteen of them have died.
