A 63-year-old woman was arrested Friday morning after trying to rob a New Orleans bank while clutching a walker.
“Your bank is being robbed; put money in bag or people are going to get hurt,” read a note that Cathy Lynn Hamilton allegedly passed to a teller at a Chase Bank branch a little after 9 a.m., according to a federal complaint.
A security camera captured Hamilton waiting on line while gripping a four-wheeled walking aid. The teller complied, surrendering $500 to Hamilton, who didn’t make it far, the complaint states. A bank security officer escorted her back inside the branch, where New Orleans Police Department officers soon arrested her. The FBI took Hamilton into custody.
Hamilton, of New Orleans, appeared less mobile than in her last failed bank robbery attempt, in 2014, when she offered a teller a note — “Put money in bag now!” — at a Whitney National Bank branch. After the teller delayed, Hamilton left & was arrested trying to ride off on a bicycle.
She pleaded guilty to a bank robbery charge in 2015 & was sentenced to 2 years in federal prison. Lemelle recommended that Hamilton be evaluated while in prison for substance abuse & “physical & mental health issues.”
Lemelle revoked Hamilton’s probation in 2017, for reasons that are not clear in the court record. Federal prison records show she was released again in 2018.

LAKELAND, Fla. (Fox13) - Polk County investigators identified the 13-year-old who fired a round at a Lakeland officer, striking him in the foot. Other officers shot at the teen, sending him to the hospital.
During a press conference Thursday, Sheriff Grady Judd also named a 14-year-old Leonard Speight Jr. &19-year-old Jermaine Julian, saying they were with13-year-old Wesley Dalmas & tried to flee from police. Investigators said Julian is in a gang, while the Dalmas & Speight are "gang affiliated."
"I don’t care that chronologically they are 14, 13, or 19. They were looking for someone to kill. I am sick to my stomach of them going, ‘Oh, did you know his age?’ It doesn’t make a difference," he said. "If you’re old enough to hold a gun & point it at a cop & pull the trigger, you’re old enough to be shot or to go to jail."
Officer Jamie Smith is continuing to recover at the hospital.
Investigators said it all started with a shooting a few blocks away.
Smith heard a shot fired while he was investigating a separate call in the area. Cops believe the trio of suspects was involved & searching for an "opp."
Officer Smith was able to find & pursue the suspect's vehicle. The chase eventually ended near an apartment complex.
The officer saw 1 of the 3 people inside the vehicle – later identified as Dalmas – was carrying a handgun & pursued him on foot. Smith commanded the suspect to drop the gun, but he didn't.
That's when the teen rounded the corner of the building & crouched down – waiting for the officer. Once Smith was near, the suspect fired at least 1 shot, striking him in the foot.
Smith continued to pursue the suspect & eventually lost sight of him. More officers arrived at the complex, passing by bushes that are close to the building where the suspect was hiding.
That's when the Dalmas jumped out of the bushes & began fleeing & engaging in another "gun battle" with officers. The teen was shot several times. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

NEW YORK, May 11 (Reuters) - A former U.S. Marine who killed a homeless man by putting him in a chokehold on the New York City subway will be arrested on Friday & arraigned on a charge of manslaughter.
A viral video showed the former Marine, identified as Daniel Penny, putting 30-year-old Jordan Neely in a chokehold on May 1 while they rode on the F train in Manhattan. Neely died from a compression of the neck, the medical examiner said, but Penny's lawyers said he did not mean to kill him.
According to witnesses, Neely, who was known to impersonate Michael Jackson in the subway system, was complaining loudly about being hungry & saying he was ready to die when Penny came up behind him & gripped him around the neck for more than 3 minutes. Penny restrained him on the floor of the subway car until he appeared to stop moving. Neely was later declared dead.
"We can confirm that Daniel Penny will be arrested on a charge of manslaughter in the second degree," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.
A bystander's video of Neely's death garnered national attention & revived a debate among New Yorkers about crime in the subway & what to do with a growing number of homeless people in the city.
The killing, and a delay by prosecutors in charging Penny, sparked protests, with some saying the incident amounted to a "lynching" and an example of "white vigilantism" against people of color. Neely was Black & Penny is white.
In a statement from his legal team, Penny expressed "condolences to those close to Mr. Neely." The statement alleged that Neely had aggressively threatened passengers riding in the subway car.
An attorney for Neely's family said in a statement on Monday that Penny's actions on the train & his words show that "he needs to be in prison."

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A Cleveland man stabbed and tortured a 60-year-old woman before leaving her on his porch, shoved inside a plastic container.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Dalontay R. Edmond-Geiger Sr., 31, on felony counts of attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, tampering with evidence & having weapons while under disability.
“I have seen a lot of truly terrible cases over the years & this is 1 of the most horrific I’ve seen,” county Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said. “Thankfully, law enforcement found her alive & I am praying for her recovery.”
The attack happened earlier this month, according to the indictment.
That day, Edmond-Geiger drove the 60-year-old woman to his home in Cleveland. There, he assaulted her, stabbed her in the arm, zip-tied her hands & tortured her.
Edmond-Geiger was carrying an AK-47 rifle, despite having been barred from carrying firearms after his 2013 robbery conviction in Allen County, according to the indictment.
Police conducting a welfare check at the man’s residence found the woman inside a small plastic container on the porch, “moaning in pain,” according to the release. She was treated at a hospital.
Edmond-Geiger was arrested at the home. He’s due for arraignment the morning of Monday, May 15.

Former Fugees member Pras is preparing to sue 50 Cent, Kyrie Irving & Rolling Stone over social media posts & a news article that alleged the rapper was an informant for the FBI.
Jonathan Noah Schwartz, who is representing Michel, wrote that the statements made by the celebrities & news outlet led the rapper to lose business deals & contributed to less revenue from his music.
“It is & was absolutely and demonstrably false for You to publish that Michel was a ‘government informant,’” Schwartz wrote in the letter sent to Rolling Stone. “Labeling a hip-hop artist such as Michel, the reputation of whom is dependent upon ‘street credibility’ & not being a ‘snitch,’ a ‘government informant’ most certainly tends to subject said hip-hop artist to hatred, distrust, ridicule, contempt and/or disgrace, along with injury in their trade or profession.”
David Kenner, the attorney who defended Michel during a recent federal criminal trial that ended with the performer convicted of political conspiracy, also plans to sue. Kenner, who has defended the likes of Suge Knight & Snoop Dogg, said he lost clients because of the alleged defamation.
“The Rolling Stone article resulted in the false & defamatory label being made in hundreds of viral local, national & international media news stories and blog posts that have harmed the business interests, reputations ... of Pras and attorney Kenner,” Michel’s spokesperson, Erica Dumas, said in a statement emailed to The Times. “It is unacceptable for any media outlet to publish unfounded & false allegations that can damage the businesses & reputations of individuals & put them at risk.”
Dumas went on to criticize 50 Cent’s labeling of Pras as a “rat” & Irving’s “FBI informant” tweet as placing Michel & Kenner’s “safety at risk.”
