CNN— A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of Ajike “AJ” Owens, the Black mom who was fatally shot last week in central Florida after knocking on a neighbor’s door.
Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, was arrested on charges of manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery & 2 counts of assault.
Lorincz, who is White, was taken into custody Tuesday night.
Authorities say Owens was shot through the door of her neighbor’s home near Ocala, Florida, on Friday. Her family has accused Lorincz of yelling at Owens’ children & calling them racial slurs prior to the shooting.
Lorincz claimed that she acted in self defense & that Owens had been trying to break down her door prior to her discharging her firearm. Lorincz also said Owens had come after her in the past & had previously attacked her.
One witness told a sheriff’s deputy that children were playing in a nearby field before the shooting & a dispute ensued as the neighbor picked up an electronic tablet that 1 of the children left on the ground.
The shooter “engaged” with Owens’ children & threw a pair of skates at them, hitting at least 1.
One of Owens’ children then went home & told the mother what had happened, prompting Owens to walk over to the neighbor’s house & knock on the door.
As Owens confronted the neighbor, Owens was shot through the door.
“Through their investigation – including obtaining the statements of eyewitnesses who only came forward as late as yesterday – detectives were able to establish that Lorincz’s actions were not justifiable under Florida law,” the sheriff’s office said.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said Monday that investigators had to consider Florida’s “stand your ground” law before making an arrest.

OCALA, Fla. (WESH) — A Marion County mother of 4 was shot & killed in front of her children on Friday.
"She Harassed the children in the neighborhood," Pamela Dias, Owens' mother said. "Harassed Ajike Owens' 4 babies. She called them racial slurs: the N-word, slaves."
And Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods says law enforcement had been called before.
"We know that this has basically been a neighborhood feud over time," Woods said. "Either the mother, Ms. Owens, has called, or the shooter has called complaining about the children."
The neighbor threw a pair of skates Friday that hit 1 of Owens' children. Her mother says Owens went & knocked on that neighbor's door.
"Door never opened. My daughter was shot & killed with her 9-year-old son standing next to her," Dias said. "She had no weapon."
Owens' family is calling for an arrest. But the sheriff says there is a specific reason one can't be made: the stand your ground law.
"A lot of people don't understand is that the law has specific instructions for us in law enforcement," Woods said. "Anytime that we think or perceive or believe that that may come into play, we cannot make an arrest. The law specifically says that. What we have to rule out is whether the deadly force was justified or not before we can even make the arrest."
Young Thug’s biological brother & YSL artist, Unfoonk is behind bars for violating the terms of the probation put in place after his plea deal in the Georgia RICO case.
The judge in Fulton County officially revoked Unfoonk’s probation Monday & sentenced him to 9 years & 6 months in prison after he was charged with firearm possession by a convicted felon ... among other offenses.
Judge Ural D. Glanville scolded Unfoonk during the sentencing ... reminding the Atlanta rapper of their conversation in May about the strict conditions of his probation, especially when it came to possessing a gun.
Back in December, Unfoonk (born Quantavious Grier) took a plea deal in the ongoing YSL RICO trial, in which he got credit for 2 years time served & was placed on probation for the next 10 years.
Gunna also took a plea around the same time as Unfoonk ... but it seems he's been using his freedom to record in the studio & dropped a comeback track last week.

ATLANTA (Fox5 Atlanta) - An Atlanta mother accused of killing 2 of her children by putting them in an oven has waived her appearance before a judge Friday morning.
Lamora Williams was scheduled to appear before a Fulton County Superior Court judge at 9:30 a.m. Friday for a final plea hearing.
In court, lawyers for the state & Williams said they have agreed on a special setting for a trial date in the future.
In October 2017, Williams called 911 at around 11 p.m. & told an operator that she had come to find 2 of her sons dead. Arriving at the scene, officers found the bodies of 1-year-old Ja’Karter Penn & 2-year-old Ke'Yaunte Penn. Both toddlers had "burn marks on their bodies."
Williams told police that she left her 3 children from noon until 11:30 p.m. Friday with a caregiver & came back to find the children dead & the caregiver gone,
"When I came in, the stove was laying on my son, on my youngest son's head & my other son was laid out on the floor with his brains laid out on the floor. I don't know what to do. I just came home from work," Williams was heard saying in the 911 call.
But investigators said that is not what happened. The charges laid out in a warrant which stated the 24-year-old mother put Ja'Karter & Ke-Yaunte in the oven sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday & 1 a.m. Friday.
A third child, 3-year-old Jameel Penn Jr., was found uninjured.
ORLANDO, Florida (10 Tampa Bay) — A 24-year-old Central Florida woman is in jail after 2 children were left alone inside her vehicle when it caught fire while she was allegedly shoplifting earlier this week.
Alicia Moore left 2 unattended children inside her vehicle around noon on May 26 as she & an unidentified man went inside a Dillard's department store at Oviedo Mall to shoplift.
A loss prevention worker watched Moore & the man take items for about an hour. As Moore was leaving the store, she saw her car engulfed in flames, prompting her to drop the items & run out.
It was reported that nearby shoppers helped rescue the children from the burning car. Both were taken to a local hospital & 1 child was treated for first-degree burns to her face & ears.
“It is undetermined what ignited the fire, however, if Moore was not being neglectful, it is unlikely [the child] would have been injured,” police said.
Moore also faced 4 additional charges of petty theft, battery & assault from previous incidents & is being held on a $48,000 bond.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Elected officials met a South Carolina community mourning the death of a 14-year-old boy who authorities say was fatally shot in the back by a gas station owner with calls to channel their righteous anger into collective support & political action.
Over 60 people gathered Friday evening for a prayer vigil across the street from the Xpress Mart Shell station in Columbia less than 1 week after authorities say owner Rick Chow killed Cyrus Carmack-Belton after chasing down the Black teenager, whom he wrongly suspected of stealing 4 water bottles.
Chow, 58, was charged with murder after an autopsy showed that Carmack-Belton was shot in the back when off the store’s property running away, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said. While Chow thought the youth had shoplifted, investigators said store videos showed Carmack-Belton returned the 4 water bottles to the cooler. Chow’s son told his father that the teen was armed, but there is no evidence that the gun found near Carmack-Belton’s body was ever directed at them.
Authorities said Chow, who has a concealed weapon’s permit, had previously fired at people he suspected of shoplifting on 2 other occasions in the past 8 years & never faced charges.
Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford stressed to vigil attendees that Carmack-Belton did not have the gun out.
“There was a young boy killed right across the street & he didn’t deserve to die,” Rutherford said.
She also urged peace at the Friday evening service capping a week that has seen nonviolent protests & vandalism outside the store & coming 1 day before Carmack-Belton's funeral.
State Rep. Leon Howard said that both Chow & his son, who officials say participated in the chase, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
