DALLAS COUNTY (CBSNewsTexas.com) – Convicted murderer Billy Chemirmir was killed in prison this morning, a spokesperson for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said he was found dead in his cell at the Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony.
TDCJ says his cellmate, who is also serving a sentence for murder, was identified as the person who killed him.
Chemirmir was suspected of killing more than 2 dozen elderly victims across Dallas and Collin counties. He would also take the jewelry of his victims & sell it for cash.
In October 2022, a Dallas jury found Chemirmir guilty of capital murder in the death of 87-year-old Mary Brooks.
He was sentenced to life in prison without parole in April 2022 after a jury found him guilty in the smothering death of 81-year-old Lu Thi Harris.
Last month, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis decided not to pursue the death penalty in 11 of the cases there.
Maywood police are investigating whether a bizarre video of Sergio Brown, the missing former NFL player, is authentic.
Myrtle Brown, his 73-year-old mother, was found dead in a creek near her Maywood home Saturday afternoon. Her death has been ruled a homicide. Brown remains missing.
In the 51-second video, Sergio Brown calls the reports of his mother’s death “fake news” & alleges the Maywood police & FBI are setting him up.
“Maywood Police Department detectives are aware of a video that has surfaced on social media in relation to Mr. Sergio Brown, who is still considered a missing person.
An autopsy determined Myrtle Brown had suffered several injuries from an assault.
Her body was found around 2 p.m. Saturday after relatives told police they could not locate her or her son.
Nick Brown, Sergio Brown’s brother & 1 of Myrtle Brown’s sons, posted on Facebook Monday memorializing his mom & asked that anyone with information about Sergio Brown’s whereabouts contact the Maywood Police Department.
